Default upgrading from vps to dedicated server

Hi

We have upgraded to a vps (which was a bit tricky as I didn't know what to do or expect and it went a bit pear shaped on your end as well) and are now looking at upgrading again to a managed dedicated server - could you just let me know what the process is for upgrading to a managed dedicated. And by that I mean
1. How long does it take for you to set up
2. What can I expect
3. Do I transfer the files
4. Would there be any downtime

Thanks!
Caroline

1. Usually we need couple of business days for setup and provision of a dedicated server.
2. You can expect excellent service as usually (if you mean something other, just ask the question more detail).
3. You can do it by yourself or ask us to do it. First 10 accounts with exception of the accounts over 1 Gb will be transfered for free.
4. No, there wouldn't be any downtime.

It takes 24-72 hours depending on the server that you choose since we actually build the hardware brand new. Once it's built and racked up it takes us another 24 hours to secure and configure the OS and cPanel, Apache, PHP, MySQL, The Firewall, etc.

Same way as any other site or you can use the account transfer function now that you have WHM. We can also transfer the site for you if you request it after you have your new root logins.

There should not be any downtime unless there was some unforeseen misconfiguration on the new server.

Thumbs up

Wonderful - Thanks!

And is it the same if we upgrade to an unlimited transfer account?

If you are moving standard dedicated to a dedicated with unlimited transfer there is a possibility for downtime depending on how you approach it.

The unlimited machines are on a different network than the regular dedicated servers so you could do it without downtime but you'd need to have a server on both networks during the transfer otherwise there would be downtime from them transporting the machine from one network to another.

If you are moving from shared, semi-dedicated or VPS to unlimited transfer dedicated machines, then there should be no downtime because you already have one server on the standard transfer network.

I suppose the bottom line would be to choose the dedicated that is best for your needs, either unmetered, or standard, that way you don't have to pay for 2 dedicated servers should you want to change networks.
