Default uptime guarantee and space

The 99.5% uptime guarantee link in advanced shared package
actually leads to 99.9% page
Web Hosting Money Back Guarantee ?

Is 99.5% just a possibilty and in reality it is always better ( say 100 % )
or there is every chance of it becoming around 99.5% ?

Can the the professional packages have atleast 10 domains
and unlimited subdomains and somewhat more space to start with eg at least 1 gig? Can you not start a scheme like providing
as much space required to the professional packages as they start with a low
space ( like jaguarpc) ?

99.5% in a given month and 99.9% overall (12 month span) is what that means.

It is usually about 99.7% or higher most months.

The only Pro plan that supports 10 domains is the Pro 5 Star. They all have unlimited subdomains.

I am not sure I understand the question, but if the plan shows 1 gig of space, that is what it comes with. We don't start you are 100 megs and make you beg us to upgrade you to 1 gig, we give it to you like it is advertised unlike some hosts that make you ask to get what you are paying for.

Thanks. I meant suppose I sign up for a PRo of 250 megs space
and I need another 200 in future. Can you give it ( see jaguarpc) without
the need to purchase higher accounts ? This is actually a good scheme in the long run for both sides

regarding the uptime guarantee I wanted to know 'slightly less uptime' for budget a/cs is always slightly less as a rule or that is just a rare and occasional possibilty

I am sorry but their deal is bogus. Who is going to use 50 gigs of disk space then request an upgrade? You'll never make it that far. This is the trend in the hosting industry right now and you need to really examine the Terms of Service and AUPs on these hosts that offer more storage than they have available.

This is what comes directly from their TOS:

Quote:
Resource Usage :
If our system administrators determine that a customer's account is utilizing an unacceptable amount of system resources, we may temporarily deactivate the account in question to preserve server integrity for other users. We may contact the client to offer alternative solutions for their accounts and make our best attempt to keep their account active without degredation to other clients services. The Company is the sole arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this provision. Clients will not use more than 30% of a systems resources for longer than 1 minute or more than 55,000 inodes on any single account. You may not use your shared or semi-dedicated accounts for file storage of other accounts, backups, storing backups of dvd's, mp3's, or any files larger than 150mb. Large and plentiful files used in this manner on an active system can cause file system corruption and lead to not just your own data loss but that of others.
In Layman's terms it means you cannot have any files over 150 meg in size. If you used 150 meg files to fill all of what they sell you, you'd need 333 files. Now what sites use files of that size? None except audio and video streaming sites, and if that is what you are going to run, then guess what? You will get pulled off of that server for over utilization of your server's performance.

Hmm, sound deceptive? It is.

An "inode" is a file, or a folder. If you have one folder with 10 html pages in it and 3 images, that is 14 inodes. They cap you on how many inodes you can have.

They also tell you that you cannot host MP3 so that blows the whole streaming concept out the window. Oh, by the way, you cannot use the space for storage yada yada yada the same old story with these "unlimited" hosts.

What that means is you can host HTML and jpegs only (basically) and you are never, ever, never going to get to 50 gigs before you hit one of their caps and get forced to upgrade to VPS or dedicated. Its a nice marketing technique though.

The difference with our hosting is we don't care what you put on your disk. You are paying for it, put whatever you like on it.

So the short answer is yes, you would need to upgrade because we are selling actual, usable disk space and not a dream of disk space. Hope it helps.

Here is something on the GlowHost blog that may be a little dated, but it explains this concept in detail and it might be worth a read.

More fun math from the GlowHost blog, regarding a hosting plan we say that was for 250 gigs of space, with a similar TOS. Since it was for a 250 gig plan just divide the figures below by 5 and you will see what it takes to actually use the 50 gigs you were lead to belive you purchased.

Quote:
In order to actually use that kind of space and be within limitations of the fine print, you would need a static HTML site with virtually no scripting, no movies, no MP3s or other large files. Considering a typical web pages is about 50KB in size, and a “web hosting gigabyte” is equivalent to 1,000,000 KB, you’d have to build 20,000 web pages to use just one gigabyte of disk space! To consume all 250 gigs of space, you would be writing 5,000,000 (5 million) web pages.

To put it into perspective, if you were to simply count out loud (yep, people would think you were strange, I don’t suggest it) to 5 million, at the rate of 1 number per second, it would take you 83,333 minutes, which is equivalent to 1,389 hours, or roughly 59 days!!!

Just remember in this industry 2 old sayings things are almost always true.

You get what you pay for
If something seems to good to be true, it is

Well, I thought there is some catch but thanks a lot for pointing
these very clearly. I hope this thread will help others too.

I understand your policy on providing the right amount of space, and there
is no further need to reply to me - only I hope that in near future review
of your policies, for Pro accounts you make the minimum space at least
500 mb
