Just a reference to an old Jane Fonda movie They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) |

I don't think Fonda ever crossed the pond.

This was my experince and the reason for my dislike of "porn" (not necessarily "adult") related sites:
After installing phpBB2 on my site and a client's site, I had been inundated with pornographic posts (including images) throughout the forums (over 100 posts in a weeks time). I had to disable public registration for my client's tetsimonial and Q&A forum and add an anti-spam question to alleviate the issue. Also learned how to disable the member list from being viewable as I still had people trying to register (with admin approval) who put all types of links in their sign-up process. It just doesn't give a real professional impression for businesses. Agree? Quote:
I had keyword phrases including "blowjob"; "teen p***y", "milf", etc. When I researched how they could possibly be related to my business site - well, that's when I found the posts. Quote:
I am very focused on being diplomatic, professional, and "friendly". I just had some experiences - professionally - that sours my opinion of adult sites. I've stated some personal observations and opinions - which I will avoid in the future in this particular setting - but which I am not ashamed of or regret. They are just based on my personal beliefs and advocacy experiences I "personally" have engaged in. I am not here to reveal my own personal preferences or experiences in the entertainment aspect of adult sites - but merely have some preferences. It was my intention to share why adult related sites, again from my own experience, can be detrimental to "my" reputation - as a professional. I can also share that I have gained a few hosting customers because I do avoid hosting adult related sites. But I am operating in the midwest. lol Quote:
Now the thing that really stinks is I know it is my lack of programming knowledge that allowed the "porn" to actually end up on the forums in the first place - so to sum it up: I wish there wasn't some adult sites so I don't have to learn to program around some of their tactics. I do apologize for lumping all adult content, spammers, and email miners into one basket, so to speak - I really try not to have broad all-inclusive opinions. btw - John-Marc - you had me rolling with the horse comment! But I guess no one can hear my inflection when words are typed.... Last edited by rlhanson; 05-23-2008 at 09:47 AM. |

I've had the problem myself, on any and all forums I ever ran, be it phpbb or not. I find there's two practical ways to stop spammers (and I mean, 100% or very close) : Pageflow and timing. Most spammers go directly to a submit url with a post request. You can verify if the hostaddr making the request has in fact been at the page where the request would normally originate for a human filling a form (usually by passing a token along with the request), and how long ago, then simply redirect to root all requests that either haven't, or else filled the form in 1 second. Customization : Add a filed that defaults to a value, with verbiage requiring users to change it. For instance, make an entry with the caption "Three kings and two queens makes a " and default it to "three pair". Then ditch all requests passing the variable as "three pair" or null. This works because while it's plain obvious to human what to do, it's too much work for spammers to include custom code just to spam your one forum. In a sense, beating them at their own by-the-numbers game.

I figure if anyone wants to ask something or debate about my beliefs, what personal entertainment I prefer, or my views on war... well, pm would be a better solution don't you think? lol Andreadoria - thanks for the response! I need to figure out or ask how to do what you suggested. btw - I think you and I could have a good debate sometime! |

the web have already been flooded with this stuff and it is rampant and destructing specially for the minors your hosting company should not cater websites that has explicit contents. it is intolerable. But quite honestly adult content must be contained.

Sort of like how the the web has already been flooded with forum spammers. The ones that like to put anchor text links in their signatures.
I have removed your signature. If you would like to add it back, you can PM me and I will send you the forum guidelines for signature links.
