Trackbacks, Pingbacks and Permalinks. What they are and how to use them

Some of you who are new to the Blogosphere and Forumsphere may be interested in knowing exactly what the purposes of a "Trackback," "Pingback," and "Permalink" are.

These forums support Trackback URLs in the advanced post editor.
It also supports Pingbacks.

Most blogs these days also support Trackbacks and Pingbacks.

In a nutshell these functions are used build links between sites. The article on the seldom updated GlowHost Blog, also known as Glog, outlines how to use these features.

I have outlined a simple tutorial for you on the Glog which explains it all in Layman's terms.

This is a post in which I have used a trackback to the original blog entry. You can't see the trackback, I entered it when I made this post using the advanced reply option. if you clicl "Post Reply" you will see the option to where you can put the Trackback URL.

As a result of using the Trackback link, the Glog entry now has a comment in it that links directly back to this forum thread.

This is one way to add comments to a blog without actually typing them into the comments box. It is also a great way to build links.

Interesting. Im new to the whole trackback/pingback thing...And its the first time ive heard of forumsphere..
